Mike did make the 1972 Olympic Team. He rode the 4,000 meter pursuit. The team also won a bronze medal at the Pam-AM games as well as ninth at the World Championships. I bought Mike's W.B. Hurlow road bike and sold it to a local doctor. He then sent it to Danny Wagner/Georgetown Cycle & Sport as well as Alpine Cycles and had it repainted. The sad part of was the Olympic team members were given decals with their name, Munich, 1972 and the Olympic rings on it. Needless to say that decal is gone forever. The first time I met Mike we were coming in from our training ride, Danny & Jimmy Wagner, Ray Betts, Ewing Taylor and I then along rides up this kid on a Schwinn Continental and starts asking about our bikes as well as a million other questions. This was in October. By February he owned a Schwinn Paramount and that April at the opening race at the Flushing Meadows track he crushed the current National Champion for his age group. The rest was history as they say. Mike, last time I saw him, owned a restaurant in Northern Virginia. If and when I ever find my scrap book I will post some photos.
