This is a firmware issue with all DVD players. It's used as a pseudo copyright protector since it doesn't allow people do play DVDs from countries from weak copyright laws like Italy and China. Your firmware can easily be "flashed" with region free firmware. There is a possibility of rendering your DVD player totally dead so be warned. With this said I know of only a couple of people who have ruined their players. I'll be doing this to the DVD player in my TiBook before moving to Belgium. If you enter the name and product number of your player in Google with the word firmware you'll find many walkthoughs of the process.

<classic content> I doing my DVD player so I can watch all the European movies about cycling that have never made it over The Pond.</classic content> good luck, Brandon"monkeyman"Ives ex-AV geek in Santa Barbara, Ca.
