[CR]Huret Jubilee spring restore?

What tricks do you all have for restoring strength to old der springs? Can I rebend it to restore spring? Can I bend the hook end only?

Need my early 70s Huret Jubilee rear (short cage) der to take up chain more firmly. Haven't used it in many years, but have put it back on the Gitane it came on recently, but it doesn't pull quite hard enough. Runs ok, but an old N. Record pull the chain fine, so I thing the Huret can do it if I can get that spring to pull better.

It's the external spiral kind of spring that winds around the cage pivot and hooks over a rivit on the cage plate, like this long cage version:
