I always seemed to fix and stitch OK, it was gluing back down the base tape that I always struggled with. It would always end up with the waffle look along the edges. As a young teenager I was the first to leap in to a field to fetch that tub that a frenzied club mate had thrown their in a puncture rage.
Now adays I use tubeless tubulars (moulded, not stitched) and sealant through the valve hole. If that does not fix it the hole is too big any way.
