The Spence Wolf method for bearing adjustment was to dribble a bit of oil into the gap between the hub cone and the dustcap. Then catch a reflection of light in the oil film - and you can see if there is a minute amount of wiggle in the bearing as you approach ideal adjustment.

The question of instructions came up with the Cambio Corsa, and Steven wrote that complete instructions were available for most components. Not being much of a collector, the only NOS components I have bought were Campy SR/NR, and those usually came with very rudimentary or no instructions. Can anybody enlighten me why that was? Several possible explanations come to mind:
- the instructions were not included for the American market, because Campy did not want to translate them from Italian. - the instructions did not come with the product, but were available separately. - dealers/wholesalers removed the instructions (maybe so that people would have the parts installed by qualified dealers?) - By the 1970s/1980s, Campy had abandoned the practice of including complete instructions (I assume Steven was talking about the Cambio Corsa era).
However, does anybody have instructions for these parts? If so, one could settle questions like "Do Campy hubs need to be adjusted a bit loosely after the wheel is built to account for axle compression (or bending) due to the quick release." So, instruction owners, please step forward! (And maybe Chuck Schmidt could produce a volume of Campy instructions...)
