Rebour wrote that "while Campagnolo already had shown their "Sportsman" derailleur, which works on 6-speed freewheels from 13 to 32 teeth and tiple chainwheels in Frankfurt (Germany) [1962 trade show a few weeks earlier than Paris], he reserved the presentation of the latest "competition" model to just a few." (rough translation from Le Cycle, 10/1962, p. 36).

Thus, one can assume that the "Record" derailleur was not yet widely available in the fall of 1962. However, Rebour must have been able to photograph it, so he could include a drawing in the very same issue. If it really had been a secret, Rebour probably wouldn't have drawn it, as he appears to have been interested in maintaining good relations with the industry.

Other components reported "new" by Rebour were: - Simplex Prestige plastic derailleurs (142 grams for the rear) - TA cranks with square taper - Mafac Top 63 and Driver brakes - a revised version of the Stronglight "Super Competition" cranks, with the "five arms shortened" (I know little about these cranks... so I don't know what that means) - Maillard "Normandy" competition hubs (note that the "competition" appears to be an attribute, rather than part of the name) - at the Maillard stand, also an "Atom" freewheel with just 12 teeth on the smallest cog.

Finally, the fashion for lights and even fenders and stems appears to have been a "square" look.

Finally, note that the "Salon de Cycle" was held only every two years, so there was an incentive to get product to the show in 1962, even if it wasn't quite ready yet. If a manufacturer didn't make the salong, the next chance would be 1964!
