Although off timeline (sorry Dale, but I think it fits for this discussion) my current TA Zephyr had one pedal (BSC threaded Speedplays) go in about 3 turns and then require a wrench (also no filings and able to reinstall). The other side though went in fine, hand spun down just like putting the pedal in a Japanese or modern Italian crank.

Must be a French thing ?

I got a set of TA Cyclotourist cranks through Jan and also noticed that the Shimano pedals I use, with BSC threading, required a wrench after the first three hand turns. Made me a little nervous after the earlier discussions here about TA cranks. I did not notice any metal shavings, and I've since reinstalled the pedals. They went in tight the second time as well, but otherwise without incident.
