Subject: [CR]Belleri Bars and Stems

Howdy,

A guy wrote me asking about Belleri bars and stems. I personally know very little about them.

This is what I heard about Belleri. A friend of mine told me he worked for the folks who made Belleri bars. Apparently these guy were Italians who lived in Florida and had furniture made in Italy and imported it to the US. One of them was interested in cycling and since they made furniture of tubular metal, he figured they could make handle bars, no problem. I don't know who made their stems or where they were made. I was told Italy.

I know they had a contract with Follis or US follis importer, as some Follis bikes featured the bars. All the Belleri stems I have seen are 22.0 Did they make 22.2 stems?

Apparently the bars are 25.0mm is this correct? As to the bars being 25 mm v. 26.4mm (Cinelli) 25.8 3tt or whatever, this kind of makes sense. In 1972 when these guys probably started, the most common size was probably 25mm as these were many of the French bikes that then dominated the lightweight market (except for the super-high end).

Any information on size, etc. of Belleri pars and stems? Any non-French stems take 25mm bars?

Regards,

John Taglia Chicago, Illinois
