Subject: [CR]Zeus downtube decal

I have an early 70's Zeus road bike with original paint and decals that I bought from a list member a few years ago. However, the downtube decal I do not believe is original. It is a vinyl sticker type like a Zeus frame decal and like them has what look like world championship bands at the edges and a while panel, but instead of the Zeus name, it has olympic rings with no lettering. I seem to recall that the other list member got this used and therefore didn't know whether this was original. It is chipped a bit in a few places and it appears to me the paint underneath is scraped, as if the decal was applied to cover the scrape. I have never seen a Zeus with a decal like this. Does anyone think this could possibly be original?

If this decal is not original, I'd like to replace it with one of the vinyl Zeus decals I recently bought from BC. Does anyone have any tricks for removing this type of decal with minimal damage to the paint underneath? I don't plan to repaint the frame. Any recommendations for treatment of the paint/ tube underneath before covering it with the new decal?
