I believe it was Maynard Hershon who wrote that if Miguel Indurain were riding a 20-year old road bike, he still would have won the Tour and by the same margin. So, why wasn't he riding a 20-year old road bike? Because none of the sponsoring manufacturers were *selling* 20-year old road bikes.
