Mick,

Thank your help in confirming that my frame is a Worlds Championship Path Model. I had posted it as such based on those words on the ancient wrapping and the 1940 catalog. I had based my 1952 model year on the 1953 introduction of a new dropout style and purchase date guestimate from the estate. Using your system for interpreting the serial numbers makes this frame 1949. This makes sense in that the date stamp on the ASC and Campy hubs stored with the frame were date stamped 49.

Listmember Tobias Shapiro has purchased another virgin CB frame from our website store and is outfitting it with NOS components stored with it. I'm glad to see the frame go to an appreciative home determined to outfit it authentically. We are listing more of these items daily at:

http://www.cyclart.com/cgi-bin/miva?Merchant2/merchant.mv+Store_Code=C&S creen=CTGY&Category_Code=DIR

Go to "Claud Butler Specials" a the bottom of that page to browse the items found with the frames. After years of professional race bike restoration, this cache is full of great bits I've never had before. It's sad to take them from the showcase and send them off, but I still feel privileged to have put them into loving hands. For many of these exceptional items I'll be sending the photos to Dale to post for posterity.

Thanks again.

I am positive that the Claud Butler frame on eBay is the very rare "Worlds Championship Path Model". Over my cycling years I have seen loads of "International Path" and "Olympic Path" Claud's but this is only the third "Worlds Path" I have ever seen, and when you consider this makers prolific output its the rarest of the rare. What I can't understand is why this exceptionally scarce "Virgin Claud" is not attracting more vigorous bidding. This truly is the king of lightweights.
