Subject: [CR]wearing out chainrings

Chuck S asks,

"I have gotta say in all honesty that all the used Campagnolo equipped bikes that I have had and all the crank sets I have bought at swap meets in Southern California, I have never had one with a worn out chainring. Do people actually wear out their Campagnolo 42, 52, and 53 chainrings??? I've never seen a shortage of used chainrings in good to excellent condition. Can the situation be that different 125 miles south of me?"

before i started rotating 3 - 4 bikes into my daily rides and just made do with one well used c record and later chorus equipped Fuso, i would wear out a 42 ring every 12K miles or so. that was about once a year. i was living in palos verdes, ( lottsa climbing opportunites), then so it was only 65 miles or so south of you.

by wearing out, i mean the leading edge of the teeth were so hooked as to not easilly release the chain, fileing them only helped for awhile before replacement was inevitable.

be safe, ride lots, wear those parts out and buy more.
