Subject: [CR]updating an older road bike + found bicycle on craigslist

As you all know, I'm trying to update a 1974 Raleigh Grand Sports. Well, I've found a website that has 7 speed components galore (don't want to spread the frame to 130mm for 8/9 speed). I found a 1983 unknown Schwinn road bike at the local Salvation Army for $20 that was in virtually perfect shape. It had Suntour ARX derailleurs, are these index or compatible with index shifters? I swapped the old Simplex derailleurs for these and my shifts have been a lot smoother hence making my bicycle much more enjoyable to ride. Also, a question to anyone out there, what is, based on personal experiences the best way to update an older road bicycle? Any hints and suggestions are more than welcome.

I was also browsing craigslist for items and I came across a 1964 Raleigh Professional, no idea on condition, etc. I think the guy might want to sell it.. here's the link for anyone wanting one. http://www.craigslist.org/eby/bik/14350072.html
