The Helicoil tap will likely run out to the very center of the flats of the boss. I would still try it before replacing the boss, as there is nothing to lose, and the hardened Helicoil threads should actually be stronger than the original threads. You may need to get a bottoming tap or grind down the end of a standard tap so you can run the thread all the way to the bottom of the hole. However, before trying the Helicoil, I would try Loctite's thread repair. I have used it on other threaded fasteners with excellent results.

\r?\n> Couldn't you repair the threads with a Helicoil? Or is it some obscure

\r?\n> threading?

\r?\n> I've used lots of them over the years, on all sorts of things, I think the

\r?\n> last one was on stripped threads on an early 60's Campy FD cable clamping

\r?\n> bolt hole.
