Subject: [CR]Crank help and Chrome question

I started to clean and rebuild the (slightly OT) late 80s Bianchi I found at the Goodwill. Nice shape, but apparently has been sitting a long time. The Park crank puller stripped out the threads in the spider and it still is solidly attached to the spindle. Now what? Can the crank be tapped to fit the larger side of the puller? Is there an alternate way to get the thing off without damage to the crank? Yes, I did make sure I took out the washer.

Question 2: I suspect the fork of my '87 (still lugged steel, albeit not CR Topic) Schwinn Circuit is chrome under the black paint. How would one, if so inclined, safely remove the paint to reveal the chorme? The rear stays are already chromed and look pretty good. I think this would look way more classy than the paint with the "Schwinn' graphic on the forks. Thanks for the help. Ron Gurth Carmel, IN
