themaaslands@comcast.net writes: there does indeed seem to be a seasonality of both supply and demand. I've been buying a selling used bikes for about 10 years. During that time, I've seen a distinct pattern by seasons. At the end of the riding season, there are lots of nice bikes that hit the market. It is hard to sell bikes from September to February. But, that is when I find the best buys. At the beginning of the season, about Feb-April, it is a lot easier to sell bikes. I have attributed this primarily to the college cycle. At the end of the season, college kids (and their parents) need money for school. The bike is an easy item to generate a few hundred dollars. After the holidays, money is in hand from gifts and riding is looking a lot more promising, ergo, the college kids start to buy more. What is perplexing is that this model was good up until about 4 or 5 years ago when college kids were still riding lugged steel bikes. Now, I doubt that very many are riding anything except the latest aluminum, titanium, or carbon offerings. Yet, I still seem to see the same pattern year to year as Steven Maasland describes. I don't think it has anything to do with the state of the economy. But, I'm looking to buy just like I always do this time of year. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL
