Here's my theory about the 122 and the 128s. (I don't remember 128s but that doesn't eman they weren't made.)

Most Italian frames were built for use with Regina freewheels, which were a couple of millimeters thiner than Suntour's. Consequently, there was less space at the point where the right side seat stay met the dropout. If you used a Suntour freewheel with such a frame, the chain would rub the seatstay when it shifted between the small cog and the next cog. The solution was to add a couple of millimeters to the hub width so that the outside face of the freewheel was a farther away from the inside face of the dropout. This would be a 122mm hub width for 5 speeds (or Ultra-6) and 128mm for 6 speeds.

Anyway, that's my theory. Best regards, Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
