Subject: [CR]WTB: Super Record bb post-1978

Here I was feeling so smug..I was going to set up an early 80s bike and make it as light as possible using vintage parts, and I thought, ok, cool, I have one near-mint Super Record bb I can use (the bike will be mostly for show, so I don't have to worry about cracking the axle)...and then, just as I was prepping it for installation, I realized I couldn't use it. Why? You ask. Because it's a pre-1978 bb, and this frame is a post 1978 frame with a braze-on front der attachment.

So, now I'm looking for a post 1978 Super Record bb...not exactly common, but I thought maybe someone here might have one they'd like to sell..or, barring that, some other trick, lightweight bb from the era, italian threaded, italian shell. Some wear ok, as long as it still turns smoothly when cleaned. The SR used special loose bearings, so if you have those, so much the better...at least, the early one did, maybe the later one used the standard 1/4" bearings. I wouldn't know. My Campagnolo catalog is not clear on the matter.

Thanks for your help!

PS: out of curiosity, it just occured to me: would a pre-1978 bb work on this post-1978 frame? Was it only the right-crank-arm Campagnolo changed to clear the lip on the CPSC derailleur? Or did they change the spacing slightly on the bb too? Those CPSC guys. What a bunch of maroons. Corrupt too, since that whole thing was purely a quid-pro-quo to the US bicycle industry, yes? Tullio must have ground his teeth to powder over that one...

Whatever the case, I'd rather use the Super Record bb that's correct for the era, and the one I have is not correct...
