I've always problems finding shoes big enough (european size 48-49 = US 13-14) especially when I searched classical touring shoes. The well known Carnac Carlits are only available up to size 46. The only classical racing shoes in bigger sizes (up to size 50) I found are italian "Corvaro Classicos" but they have common thick plastic racing soles for LOOK/SPD cleats. I took them to a local shoe maker to replace the thick soles with (extra hard) leather soles. The result is surprisingly usable: http://home.t-online.de/home/dirk.feeken/schoes.jpg

Subject: [CR]What Shoes?

I have just looked in the archives and found extensive information on shoes but did not find anything that helped me come to a specific conclusion. I am looking for a decent (not too expensive) touring shoe for my old style pedals (Superleggeri) with toe straps etc. Last time I bought a pair of shoes they were Spanish with a leather sole - and that was when I was racing in the late 70s! I have just been using a regular pair of walking shoes and it is now time to get something a little more suitable, but I am lost with all this new fangled modern stuff. Any help greatly appreciated. Please reply off list.

Thanks,
