Subject: [CR]what is a chariot race?

Martin asks?

What is a Chariot race?

Please do not answer "a race between chariots".

and David replies A one lap, standing start scratch race. We run them as part of the Sprint competition at Manukau Velodrome (Auckland, New Zealand). Generally we have six riders per heat on the 285m track, starting about 15m before the start line. On-topic track hardware is not uncommon. David Benson Auckland, New Zealand

One thing not mentioned is that the promoters often allow the holders to push the rider with whatever force they can generate at the start. sometmes they allow the pusher 0 steps, sometimes 1, somtimes 2. it makes a big difference to level the field between the roadies and the track men who usually have better starting technique. of course it works better with vintage iron ;-).
