The Gitane speculation inspired me to dive into the basement to look at my (cheap?) Gitane "Racing Team" track iron from the late '70's early '80's (post foil era) for similarities.

On mine, the lugs are straight out of the box, typ. French production frame joinery, seatstay caps are on the crude side and not as long. BB casting is different - casting has sculpted sockets rather than plain butt ended, dropouts similar but at least somebody picked up a file and eased them into the stays a bit, fork crown on mine is plain butt ended round blade sockets and hasn't been drilled.

Of course, none of this indicates that the eBay item isn't a Gitane. However, at the current price (~$105 + S&H), someone with shorter legs than mine would have something fun to thrash around. Hopefully the new owner will know what they don't have, give it a beadblast and powdercoat instead of taking it down to the corner with jersey pockets full of $15 Rolexes.
