I've enjoyed all the comments on starting fixed gear riding and they have been right on the mark from my experience, especially after Sunday's ride. Just put together my '52 Viking Road/Path Model. After riding for years on a 68 inch gear I built this Viking with a 72, then went out for our maiden voyage. 30 miles of unfamiliar short steep hills and head winds. Am now living off Ibuprofen, limping, and wondering if this pain in the knee is temporary or am I done for. This may be an age thing, so I suggest you start low and gradually build up your gear inches to fit your circumstances. Itty bitty jumps on the same route. But damn I love fixed gears.
