Salmon fenders. Still made. Great for bikes with extremely tight clearances. Heavy-duty aluminum. According to the fender review in the latest Vintage Bicycle Quarterly, by far the heaviest fenders one can find, at 700+ grams including hardware. That article recommends instead the Berthoud carbon fenders, weighing less than half that much. Honjo alloy fenders only weigh 444 grams, Esge plastic ones about 600. However, if you absolutely have to go over the brake on a racing bike with no clearance, they may be the way to go.

For some reason, these are popular with the racing/sportif types in France, who count every gram on their bikes (before they attach fenders, obviously.)

If you want a set, I believe Bill Laine of Wallingford (www.wallbike.com) has a spare set that he got for evaluation purposes.
