[CR]Oct Cycle Sport

(Example: Component Manufacturers:Avocet)

I picked up the October 2003 Cycle Sport on my business trip yesterday. It is a great issue for classic rendezvous members. This issue is the first of a two part set of interviews with all of the living winners of the Tour de France. Also, there are articles and "road tests" on the bicycles used in several tours, including a General Lucifer single speed from 1910 and a Mercier from 1966. One of my favorite comments in the interviews is from the 1966 winner, Lucien Aimar. "A rider who crashes on a descent is not a descender. In 1967, I was clocked at 140 kph (84 mph) on the descent of the Ventoux. Some years later, I passed over the summit of the Turini eight minutes behind Eddy Merckx. By the bottom of the descent, I had joined him--I had gone twice as fast as him. That shocked me. I told myself on that day that I would never ride the Tour de France again." Lucien Aimar participated in nine Tour de France and was the roommate of Jacque Anquetil. Lou Deeter, Orlando FL
