My 1972 Cinelli has a beautifully machined Ti seatpost binder; functionally the same but without the recesses. My friend went through most of the bike and custom made Ti parts to replace alloy parts; he replaced Campy parts as well. His goal was to create a lightweight bike. He has told me it was difficult to get Ti in the early 70s (was this the case?) but he was in a position to obtain it. His motto: the cumulative effect is what makes the difference.

I'm impressed to the extent he, and others, went to create these lightweight wonders.
