The Duopar on my 78 Motobecane Grand Touring does an outstanding job. I wouldn't waste my time with a Luxe.

Seems to me though that I've seen those Luxes on some early seventies Schwinns like the Super Sport. Of course on Schwinns the component that that you got was not always the one in the catalog.

It was cheap, I think either $9 or $15, certainly no more than that, and plenty shiny. I realized that it was not likely to be much of an improvement over the Alvit that it replaced, and I was right. The finish is better, but the mechanism is pretty much identical. Both were lousy shifters with a heavy lever pull.
