Larry & others:

I can vouch for the correctness of this information. As I have mentioned in the past, I went down to the factory (the Klein family farm's barn & tool shed) in San Martin, CA, met Gary Klein, Jim Williams, and Brian Vandeworken, long before I purchased my own '77 Klein "Team Super". Although I don't remember the small tube section being painted.

I remember Gary showing me one of those kits, and passing on using one.

Instead, I created an extra link that effectively widens the clamp opening on a Sun Tour Cyclone front derailleur. It's still mounted that way today. I only made one, and I guess someone else could have done the same. I used a small scrap of aluminum, a hack saw, several files, an electric drill, and a nail for the extra pivot pin.

My choice for the rear was a Crane, which is the correct designation for the short caged version in the Shimano Dura Ace line (a Crane GS has the long cage).
