I loved the story of the Varisty creating inspiration. When I was a just a lad in St.Louis in the early 70's, my eldest brother (I have 6 of 'em) was an accomplished national runner and Biathlete (which are now called Dualthons). He hated mass start bike racing (he hated getting bumped by big-legged goons) but loved hammering on his bike in TT's and Biathlons. I remember well lusting as a child at his two prime machines--a Nishiki Competiton and a Guerciotti (he still has them!). I would stare at them for hours, studying their details, including the lugs, shiny stuff and holes everywhere. They both were beautiful and I vowed some day to have one. Years later, my first "real bike" (after my Free Spirit which I logged 1000s of miles on in college) was a Nishiki Sport (the only bike my first wife would "allow" me to buy). A low-ender but a great entry bike to my eventual addiction to racing. I rode "the piss out of it" and eventually sold it for $75. To this day, hearing "Nishiki" brings back so many memories.
