Subject: [CR]OMA derailleur

While in Italy last week, I picked up a rear derailleur that I had never seen or heard of before. It is made by OMA. It would appear to be from the 40's or 50's when you look at how it is put together. It is complete with accompanying shift lever, gear cable and housing. About the only identifying part is the annotation: OMA brev 21707 that appears on both the gear and the shift lever. I suppose it could be either French or Italian, but given that I found it in the Southern part of Italy more likely Italian. Can anybody help me identify this gear and perhaps explain how it might work?

Thanks for any infor that you can provide.
