Colored Tufo tires have been banned from our 42 degree track in Blaine Minnesota. After a year or so of use, or exposure to the air, they get somewhat slick, or slippery. While rolling out, I have slid a few inches downtrack- quite disconcerting. I have heard of similar problems at other tracks. Apparently the black compound Tufos don't have this problem. I have temporarily refreshed the grip of the tread by wiping it with a rag with solvent on it, but they get slick again after a day. Ask track directors around the country for confirmation on this.
I absolutely love Tufos in every other way, and use them for training on the road. I probably won't race crits on them though.
