Subject: [CR]British marques update for Thomas Rawson

From: "Thomas Rawson" <twrawson@worldnet.att.net>

"I have been waiting for our British friends who wanted to revolt and secede last year to start their own website about British Marques to speak up. Tell me about Ephgrave, Gillot, Thanet etc etc. Really - bring it on."

Revolt and secede? Maybe I should have written my initial post about the French and British group in words of one syllable for the hard of understanding. I was the prime mover behind the abortive attempt to start the group. There was a huge amount of interest in this project-around 100 people wanted to sign up. In fact, weren't you one of them?I got fed up with the negative responses from a few people and it never got off the ground.

However, your "British friends" have been doing their bit in their usual, understated, stiff upper lip way (ha, ha).

I've got my Hobbs website at: http://freespace.virgin.net/hobbs_of.barbican/index.html

Bob Reid has his Flying Scot website at: http://www.flying-scot.co.uk/ (mapped)

And Norman Kilgariff has his website covering Holdsworth, Claud Butler and FH Grubb at: http://homepage.ntlworld.com/nkilgariff/

These are websites covering five British marques and, as far as I'm aware, none of us has revolted or seceded yet. (Bob's revolting but that's another matter.) I've got a lot of scans of British catalogues-including Selbach, Hetchins, LH Brookes, Thanet, RO Harrison, David, GA, Bates-that will be going up on my Hobbs website in due course. I don't think that's too bad.

How's your contribution to the vintage bike scene coming along?

As for your comments about Dale not owning the website, he can shut it down tomorrow if he wants. That's pretty conclusive-and probably pretty tempting, too.
