David Novoselsky asked whether to use a modern or vintage gruppo on his Bates. I suspect there are things he might not care for about the appearance of the Campy record 10 and I'll bet the carbon is just about it. I have used Record 9 speed to avoid this and I can't say I like my Record 10 set up on a different bike any better for having the extra cog. One thing he would gain with the modern set up is the tremendous increase in braking power achieved with the dual pivot brakes and their larger brake pads. He could then feel free to send me his Campy Anniversary set as he would then have lessened use for it. I have been thinking of late that modern brakes might be mixed with vintage components and they would not look all that bad. Maybe I'm just a little nuts or something.
