Yes, Freebairn (sp), in Australia made wood fillied rims like the Scheeren Weltmeisters, and they were lighter. Freebairn rims made their way into the San Francisco area in the early to mid 50s. I never had any, but did use Scheeren Weltmeisters in a 24-28 spoke configuration for Kilos. When Weimann started making Weltmeisters, they were not as light as the Scheeren version. I am on the track for one or a pair of Freebarin rims. This prompted me to check
again.
