In the good old days all that was neded to keep a wheel tight and straight was a little dab of oil. With 9 and 10 speeds and lotsa dish the left side spokes definately benefit from a little help from some kind of locking goo. My personal favorite is to build the wheel dry. While still loose apply a drop of thin oil to the threads and eyelet. After all trued, tensioned, stressed, apply a small dot of Locktite Spoketite to the botom of the nipple. This adds some friction to the bottom few threads and also gives a bit of a corrosion barrier. Wheels can be easily be retrued (but I seem to never have to he he) using this method. I have also tried Prolock nipples and have found them to be a waste of $$ .
