Actually, in my experience, the 1" pitch roller chain does feels different than the 1/2" pitch roller chain. There is some slop in a 1" pitch drive train that's not there in a 1/2" pitch drive train. Probably caused by there being half as many teeth engaged. Little bit noiser too.

Based on an all new-old-stock 1" pitch roller chain drive train by the way on this 1955 Gillott:
