Re. David's query, "are they better???" Yes, I believe they function better due to the more solid pivot bushings resulting in less flex and in my experience, less squeal. Are they considerably better, probably not, but they are a bit better and certainly less common than the Racer. The finish of the early versions is no netter, no worse.

As mentioned by Phil, I also use LaVipere pads. They pop up on ebay with some frequency, stop great and do indeed help to reduce squeal as compared to Mafac pads. A little gentle toe-in goes the longest way towards reducing or even eliminating squeal.
