Subject: [CR]Hubs special built for chain case bikes

Carsten Rehbein is offering a set of 1950's Bianchi branded hubs that perplex me. You can see the auction at http://tinyurl.com/mcuq

I had always been told that all the hubs that had the drive side flange with the built-up washer-like surface on the inner side of the threading were meant exclusively for bikes with full chain cases. I also checked a number of catalogs from the period and my beliefs would appear to be confirmed. Am I wrong about this hub flange? Are they really meant for racing bikes? Even the FB documentation would seem to point to the fact that these flanges were meant for bikes with 'carter' the Italian description of the full chain case. Hopefully somebody will prove me wrong as I too have a set of hubs with just such a flange.
