Subject: [CR]dawes identification

Hello there, well i'm hoping that you guys might be able to help me out with a bike i have just acquired. Its a dawes, not the most glamorous of bikes i know, but something appeals and has stopped me stripping it down and using the bits elsewhere.

Unfortunatly it is currently duluxed black, but after a little scrape with the knife it seems that the original colour was a 2 tone spearmint green ( on the maintubes) and marroon (on the down tubes).

I think that it dates from the 60's, it has a 4 speed sturmey hub dated 1964 with 2 rear cogs attached ( making it 8 speed!!!). I have found a frame number on the rear dropout which is HS2106. Because the frame has been so heavily painted i dont even have a model name.

The component list is as follows:

R/Wheel = 27" 1964 FOUR speed Sturmey Archer hub with a second sprocket on it with a SVELTO rear derailler making it an eight speed bicycle. Chater Lea chainset Brakes = Weinmann 750, Vainqueur 999 centre pull brakes. Mudguards = Bluemels popular mudguards. Saddle = Brooks B15 Leather saddle.

It has proved nigh on impossible to get any accurate info about it, All the original bits are there and relitively intact, does anyone have any info so that i can begin the resto? A picture would be brill as would any technical info.

Here's hoping, jay
