Just in case someone new to the list hasn't run into the perennial discussion about gluing sewups, Fast Tack is race-proven and no one can argue that it doesn't do a good job holding sewups on. It's probably a good choice for someone who needs to stick a tire in a hurry, since tubular cement takes hours to fully setup, days even. It's relatively cheap, too. A lot cheaper than Tufo tape. Still there are several good reasons why a lot of us don't use it.

1. It doesn't have the characteristic of rebonding itself when a flat is replaced with a spare that has dried glue on the basetape. This is not a problem if your flat repair strategy is to grab a replacement wheel from the race vehicle or a team mate. 2. It has such a strong bond that it can pull basetape off a tire when removing. This is not a problem if you throw your flat sewups away. That Tufo tape may do the same thing. Cheez, it's strong stuff. 3. 3M says it's not designed to be a glue for bicycle tires. Big deal, howls the crowd.

Oh, one other plus. Medical research indicates that Track-Town crankers who are allergic to shellac have no such aversion to Fast Tack.

I do have a tube of the stuff here. It works great to glue the trim back onto my Volkswagen.

Steve Barner, the only tracks left up here are for diagonal stride (XC skiing), Bolton, Vermont
