Ann Phillips, ever enthusiastic, wrote:

ADP: My first future classical British bike joined the household this week in frame form - a 1968 Claude Butler Torino. Its getting built up pretty much Euro Touring, I'll be using my first generation 144 BCD stock Campy triple. HS: Now, Ann, I don't want you to take this wrong (even though my early 70s Medici Gran Tourismo would love to meet your cranks, for honorable purposes, only), but I think that the Claude Butler was made before the Campy triple came out, and that you really want Stronglight 49d or TA with TA CycloTourist rings.

ADP: I'm thinking about wheels these days and I'm told that I have to use 27 inch in that frame. Thats ok, if so, but what kind of rims am I looking for to be generally period correct? I'm using high flange Campagnolo hubs. HS: Weinmann is by far the most common. the wider ones (Alesa) or the ones with spoke nipple dimples, but probably not the concave versions (I think they are a bit too young). I've found these as pairs, built up, for <$100/pr from time-to-time, and would drop hints before Cirque. :-)

ADP: I'd like to find some Mafac centerpulls for it (unless one of you has a cooler, low cost suggestion) and I'm not sure if the brake reach for those brakes ultimately limits me to 27". HS: The Baron was offering these, NOS and complete for about $30 or $35. Otherwise, some of us have dirty ones lying around. They're nice, since they squeal so much that you don't need any other warning device. Weinmann or Universal 61 would also be appropriate, but Mafacs have huge adjustment range.

I'm also trying to use as many parts as I already possess for this bike project!
