Interesting way to make your bicycle lighter !

Lucky it was a chunk of steel , and not a chunk of aluminum . The bi-metallic electrolytic / galvanic corrosion would probably have fused it all together . . . ( and I'd be happy to have a real expert in the chemistry of metals correct my terminology ! )

But , how did you insert a rod and PRESS it out ? Was it so short that it came out through the bottom bracket shell ?

I can picture sliding a short plug in through the bottom bracket shell , and PULLING it out through the top of the seat-tube . . .

Just curious about the strange pictures your narration has put into my imagination !
