[ on list ]

As discussed on C. R. List , quite a bit recently . This Legnano was not perfectly "restored" .

It was more like perfectly "re-furbished and re-modeled" .

The first thing I noticed were the brake levers . They simply scream 1970 to me . And the last year they were made could have been much later than that . I wasn't knowledgeable enough to have a strong opinion about the crankset . Although it did look more like 1960-ish to me . There is no doubt that some components are not as old as others on this 1949-1950-1951 bicycle . But , that's not really a problem !

The end result is a bicycle which is not so much a "historical museum piece" as it is a wonderful , beautiful , piece of sculpture , and work of art .

Ride it and enjoy it . Don't worry about scratches . It can easily be re-finished again , with no worries , no guilt , and no loss in value .

Or hang it up and enjoy it as a piece of sculpture . It is so beautiful .

Or donate it to a museum . But make it more of an art museum , not so much a history museum .

Aldo Ross is very knowledgeable on bikes of this period. He said that the Legnano has the wrong decals, crank and needs loads of pinstriping to be authentic. Lots of eye wash, but not as perfect in period correctness, he says. It is just a stunner, isn't it?

Yes , that is indeed a spectacular bicycle .

Oh my goodness . Wow !!!!!!

And yes of course I do want it .

But no , I won't be bidding on it .

And when comparing the simple elegance of the original Campagnolo Cambio Corsa , with the more technically complicated ( but simpler LOOKING ) Campagnolo Cambio Paris Roubaix . . .

I used to like the original Cambio Corsa better .

Now I think I've decided that I like the slightly revised , cleaner looking , but more technically complex , Paris Roubaix , even more than I like the original Cambio Corsa !

What a beautiful bicycle .

wow

Isn't it you who loves Legnano bikes? This one is the most beautiful early bike I have ever seen.
