Steven, Now I'm worried. I may have sold a couple of Cinelli stems for a lot less than their true value. But that's another story... Here's the pertinent story. As I mentioned, I've seen a decent number of steel Cinelli stems. Based on the comments I've received, it's likely that I actually saw more Cinelli stems and didn't realize it because of my mistaken belief regarding the badges. Of the steel Cinelli stems I _know_ I've seen, not all were on Cinelli frames, although the majority were on really nice Italian bikes. Now the two I owned came to me on Italian that either had lost their markings or had been repainted. (I assumed they were Italian based on the bottom bracket threading.) But I got these bikes from my friend David when he was cleaning out his basement. They had the Cinelli stems with unmarked handle bars. The brakes were Universal with Altenberger levers. The wheels were nothing special. I still have the bars and levers. The remaining parts were either totally worn out or very cheaply made. It's hard to imagine these were Cinelli frames - for one thing the dropouts were stamped rather than forged. Plus, the derailleurs were early Valentinos (or whatever Campy called those horrible stamped metal things before they called them Valentino). Or did I really throw away a couple of early '60s Cinelli frames? Cheers (?) Fred Rednor - Arlington, Virginia
