Didn't occur to me that nipped lugs are because of smaller frame - matter of perspective: What small frame ? Fits fine. Incidentally, Raleigh metal badge across "The Raleigh" text is too wide for head lugs such that edges of badge lay on top of lug.

Of course, not way to tell what was original fitment. Currently: NR front & rear, Patent 73. TA 3-pin with steel Lyotard quill pedals.

Can you recall wheel specs? This had first generation Phils on mis-matched tubulars, Ava and a Fiamme.

Oh, and the seat tube was stuffed with fifty pound notes. : ) Don't I wish !

I remember seeing the chopped off lugs on small-framed Raleighs in the '70s. I don't recall that color on the Competition, most were black. A real nice bike though and popular with young racers on a budget. Very versatile bike that retained eyelets but was fully suitable for racing. It was the least expensive bike the shop I worked in sold that came stock with sewups.

I remember snapping the Jubilee front derailleur on at least one of those on assembly. One of the most beautiful front changers I have ever seen, but incredibly fragile. Most failed by overtightening, though. Not in actual use. Only certain years had the Jubilee setup. Yours may have had Simplex changers, which also worked well when adjusted properly. Lousy pedals though, if I recall correctly.

The gods continue with their ironic sense of humour. Though having recently lost my job, I have been gifted with another bike project. Another set of tubes to feed

Raleigh Competition S/N G5280. 52.5 c-c. Colour perhaps a dark metallic brown. At bottom of seat tube, above bb shell is remnant of decal seemingly stating "Carlton Race Approved Workshop England". Among components are root beer brown anodised Universal Super 68 side pulls. Also, appears that head lug points were factory nipped to accomodate the Raleigh Heron head badge. Any Raleigh-files, feel free to comment. Thanks.
