Subject: [CR]Bocama Lug Question

Howard's query about the Bocama Comp 83 lugs on his ZEUS frame is a bit of a puzzler. The 1983 Bocama parts list, or at least the list distributed by Ron Kitching in he UK shows no such model. The last of the Competition models was part of the "Super Professional" series with long points, and this was numbered Competition 78. The norable feature of this set was the odd design of the head lugs which had a very angular cut on the head-tube instead of a curved flowing cut. The triangular cut-out was very angular too.. not very elegant.

The relationship between Kitching and Zeus was the normal one of importer/distributor and manufacturer. Ron had imported Zeus frames in the 70s and early 80s but then discontinued them but carried on with the groupsets and the frame and brazing parts.Quite a lot of Ron's own company frames were brazed up locally in Harrogate using Zeus crowns. and drop-outs. Others used the Suntour parts that he also imported. There has been quite a lot of discussion in recent years about the Anquetil frames that Ron distributed, as to where they were made ie France or England. Certainly some bear all the hallmarks of being made in England using frame-parts imported by Ron.

As for Zeus, the company was still exhibiting at the Paris Show in September 1983, but they may have gone into liquidation soon after
