Thanks for making my day! Your camments truly have put a smaile on my face. I knew when I mentioned HACK SAW, it would upset someone's stomach.
Would I have done it?? I don't know, I was only 4 in 1970, but by 1980 I was removing the chainstay and seat stay bridges, spreading the frames, installing longer bridges and cantilever brakes to beautiful old balloon tire bikes so that we could put in 5 speed freewheels. Would I do it today? Probably not, but in 1980 it was the thing to do.
Anyway, like I said in the auction, it can easily be repaired without even replacing the dropout.
I was shocked when a collector told me that he was having a new bike built with lugs salvaged from a wrecked frame. To each his own.
Anyway, bikes are for riding, aren't they?

This is what you get when a person just uses a bicycle for riding as the primary function. Nice bike, sad posting. Hacksaws and bicycles were not meant for eachother.
