According to the Campagnolo Timeline, this derailleur was introduced in 1977 along with the newer style Super Record rear derailleur (script logo and updated cage geometry), and the one bolt seat post. The straight band clamp is original.

In 1978, the C.P.S.C changes included the lipped cage, as on the one in the auction.

I never heard the "chain catch" story. I think they were only made for two or three years.

Anything rare should be worth more, but someone has to want it, i.e., know about it and care! Anyone restoring a 1978/9 bike to correct spec. should be VERY interested, but there may not be a lot of competition in that slice of the
market.
