John, guess you aren't a Francophile -yet. For more than half of the 20th century, Ideale was THE French saddle, just as Brooks was THE British saddle. I'm pretty sure Ideale goes back well before WWII just as Brooks does, although I don't know if Ideale is quite as old. The Ideale model 90 was the equivalent of the Brooks Pro and the designs were quite similar. The Ideale mod 80 was roughly the equivalent of the Brooks B17 in terms of cost and quality, although at this level designs were less similar. There were many other Ideale models, just as there were many Brooks models. In the late 70's/80s Ideale produced leather covered plastic saddle like the Cinelli Unicanitor. One might say Ideale was the Brooks of France, although I suppose the French would have it that Brooks was the Ideale of Britain.
