Subject: [CR]New USPS surcharge

Not a month ago there were a load of postings wailing on the cost that some people charge for shipping a bike. I hope those same folks have read all the postings on this issue. I still use a flat fee so there are no surprises, you either bid and accept it or not. No calculating for which coast you live on, no packing charges, no coming back if I undercharge. A flat fee, take it or leave it, simple and easy for everyone.

Another observation, no more than two weeks ago I sent a heavy bike frame and some bits to Wisconsin from NJ. I have been trying Fed X at the recommendation of people on this list. I was shocked when the BMX sized box only cost me $11 to ship.

Yesterday I shipped a set of heavy wheels in a box that is normal wheel sized. Again I went to the same Fed X depot and these were going to the same Wisconsin address. This box was smaller and lighter than the one I shipped two weeks ago. BANG - $20, I am at a loss to predict shipping cost any more. They should use a wheel like on Wheel of Fortune. At least that way I would know it is completely random.
