Fascinating. I feel rather a fool for just assuming still more people used toeclips and straps. My cycling "karma" is just permanently c. 1960s-70s. It's rather sad... I cannot tell you how many times I've see poor blokes literally fall over on their machines when trying to get used to those "clip on" thingies. That clacking sound is uber '90s annoying.

Of course it's a lot harder using traditional toeclips and straps without traditional smooth leather cycling shoes.. what passes for "cycling shoes" with those clutzy velco straps etc. just don't work with toeclips.

Now... what's the story with "collecting" toestraps?? I have seen what I consider absurdly high prices on eBay for various Italian makes. Do folks really get off on these accessories?? And what are the most desirable ones and why? My Competition GS came with "San Remo Elite" so someone tell these are worth a fortune... I'd rather have Brooks...
